Methodology
The Dallas Court of Appeals does not keep reversal statistics. The Clerk of the Court of Appeals advised that these statistics could be calculated from records available on the Court of Appeals website at
http://www.courtstuff.com/5th/. For a copy of the letter from the Clerk,

The reversal statistics were calculated during the week of September 16, 2002 based on records from the Court of Appeals website. For a spreadsheet with all the cases that were analyzed,

Scope: Includes actions by trial court during the current term: January 1, 1999 to present (September 16, 2002). Includes cases decided by Dallas Court of Appeals only (i.e., excludes cases transferred to other courts of appeals as well as cases still pending). The following actions by the Court of Appeals are excluded from these computations: cases abated, vacated judgments, consolidations and voided numbers. A "reversal in part, affirmed in part" is considered a reversal.
Reversal rate (w/o Mandamus) = Reversed/(Reversed + Affirmed + Dismissed)
Reversal rate (w/ Mandamus) = (Reversed + Granted mandamus)/(Reversed + Affirmed + Dismissed + Granted Mandamus + Mandamus denied)
Reversal rate when COA reached merits = Reversed/(Reversed + Affirmed)
